Michael Vick (Left) Geno Smith (Right). Orlando, FL – During breakfast at the NFL league meeting, Rex Ryan was asked several questions about the QB situation between Geno Smith and new QB Michael Vick.

Rex mentioned that the Jets are getting someone that has proven something in the past. (Michael Vick.)

“You’re getting a guy who has proven to be a winner.” Rex said at breakfast in the league meeting today. “The kid can still run and he has athleticism in him. Does he have the chance to be our Week 1 starter? Probably.”

The Jets signed Michael Vick to push Geno Smith, but both quarterbacks may have to fight for a starting position.

“Vick and Geno will each have a chance to prove to be the starter.” Rex said. “Will there be legitimate opportunities? Most definitely.”

Even though Vick and Geno will most likely be in a match for the starting position in camp, there’s a chance that the coaching staff will utilize a strategy to use both of them on the field. Kind of like what former quarterbacks, Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow did two seasons ago.

“We may even use a package that puts both of them (Vick and Geno) on the field together.” Rex said. “There may just be a chance that it'll happen.”

“No body is talking about is now but I’m just saying, watch out for the Jets.” Rex said in his final statement.
