TAIPEI, Taiwan—Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company gave its first performance at Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall on the evening of March 20. Among the audience was Wu Hanzong, an ink and wash painter.
Mr. Wu said everyone in the arts field would benefit from seeing Shen Yun. He was deeply impressed with the use of colors throughout the performance. “We have a lot to learn from it,” he said.
Shen Yun’s one-of-a-kind, high-tech animated backdrops made Mr. Wu feel he didn’t need to travel. He felt the natural landscapes shown were awe-inspiring. He said, “This [Shen Yun] leaves me with the impression of seeing rising mountains and plummeting waterfalls. Very realistic, very touching.”
He greatly admired Shen Yun for its sensitive and inspiring use of colors throughout the performance.
Besides painting, Mr. Wu teaches at the Department of Fine Arts in the National Taiwan University of Arts. He is also Dean of the Design and Technology Department, and the Advertising Design Department, of the private Taibei Senior High School.
After seeing Shen Yun for the first time last year, he highly recommended it to his students. “I hope those in the arts field can see it and understand it,” he said.
Mr. Wu studied at the National Taiwan University of Arts that has a Department of Dance. From what he saw there, he knew Shen Yun performers have great expertise in classical Chinese dance. “In fact, I can tell at a glance they [Shen Yun performers] must have gone through long-term solid training to achieve such a level.”
Two days before the Shen Yun performance in Taipei, he had hosted a gathering of over 100 friends to recommend Shen Yun to them.
“After watching it today, I will recommend it again to my friends,” he said enthusiastically.
This year, he attended Shen Yun together with Wu Dexian, a ceramics creator, and Zhang Shuiming, principal of Taibei Senior High School.
