Apple recently updated its iMac and Mac Pro desktop computer lines. The Apple Magic Trackpad was also officially released, as was a new 27-inch LED Cinema display.

The new iMacs are equipped with the latest Intel Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 processors. The Core i3 and Core i5 processors are available in dual-core 3.6 GHz models, and there are also quad-core Core i5 and Core i7 2.93 GHz options available.

“We took the world’s best all-in-one and made it even better,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing in a statement. “With the latest processors, high-performance graphics, and signature aluminum and glass design, customers are going to love the latest iMac.”

The 21.5-inch models are priced at $1,199 for 3.06 GHz, and $1,499 for 3.2 GHz. The new 27-inch models are priced at $1,699 for 3.2 GHz, and $1,999 for 3.6 GHz.

Along with the iMac update, Apple vamped up the Mac Pro desktop computer line as well. The new Mac Pro is expected to have up to 12 cores of processing power and is claimed to be the fastest Mac ever. The computer comes in several models, with prices starting at $2,499.

Released with the new iMac and Mac Pro lines is the Magic Trackpad, which is sold separately for $69. It features the same sleek glass and aluminum design as all Mac products and brings the “intuitive Multi-Touch gestures of Mac notebook trackpads” to the desktop, according to Apple.

Connected to computers via Bluetooth, the Magic Trackpad enables iMac users to scroll freely, pinch to zoom in and out, and rotate an image with their fingers. It can be used as an alternative to the Magic Mouse.

After refreshing its hardware, Apple followed up with several software updates for the new devices. An update, Mac OS X v10.6.4, for the iMac ( Mid 2010), contains all the applicable fixes from the Mac OS X 10.6.4 update which was issued in June, resolves graphics issues, and improves compatibility with large-format SDXC memory cards.

To use the Magic Trackpad, iMac users must also download the Magic Trackpad and Multi-Touch Trackpad Update 1.0.

A new 27-inch LED Cinema display is also expected to replace the 24-inch and 30-inch displays. Featuring a 2560-by-1440 resolution, the display gives users a 178-degree, clear view and is equipped with an ambient light sensor which adjusts the brightness of the LED Cinema Display according to lighting in its environment. It is expected to be released in September with a price of $999.
