Explosives were found inside an illegal Muslim praying hall in the Russian city of Samara. Authorities decided that the explosives were too dangerous to defuse and had it detonated, RT reports.

The explosives were blasted with a water cannon, triggering them.

The house was being used as a gathering place for Salafis, an ultra-conservative sect within Sunni Islam.

Russian security forces arrested 53 men in the compound, and at least one of them had been promoting the Islamic State online.

The house had not been registered with the regional Muslim community as an official place of worship.

The information found at the illegal praying house led to raids on other houses, where authorities found weapons and ammunition belonging to militants fighting for jihadists in Syria.
