OTTAWA—The fifth and final Shen Yun Performing Arts company played to a full house, on Friday, at the National Arts Centre in downtown Ottawa on one of the coldest nights of the year.

“Very nice. Very elegant, everybody is in good time, beautiful dress, nice choreography and everything is nice. Nice to learn a little bit about China too,” said Dr. Bill Pomfret, founder and president of International Caregiver Development Corporation (ICDC).

Dr. Pomfret is a best-selling author former professor at McGill University, Montreal and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health (UK).

Dave Johnson, Account Manager, Application Management Services at IBM Canada Ltd., one of the enthusiastic audience members, accompanied by his mother Lucille Johnson, said he found it inspiring.

“I loved the show. It was incredibly well executed. It was nice to get introduced to a different combination of art. It’s art. It’s nice. It’s beautiful,” he said.

Mrs. Johnson thought it was very well put together.

With the main goal of reviving China’s ancient culture and traditions, all but lost after the Cultural Revolution that occurred in 1966-1976, the show presents classical Chinese dance, folk dances, and ethnic dances from different parts of China. Those dances capture stories and traditions from China’s many dynasties as well as stories from classic novels and historical tales.

“[It shows us an] incredible world, a better world. So perfect, so perfect,” said Mr. Johnson.

“I think it’s good for the world.”

Elaine St. Amour Managing Director of the Public Affairs Branch at Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said she also enjoyed the show, describing it as “very good.”

“I think the dancing was very, very professional, very well-done.”

“The music was very very good as well. The costumes were wonderful,” she said, adding that the backdrops added to the performance.
