VANCOUVER—“I love it. I got goose bumps,” said Danish author Tove Petersen, who was delighted with the Shen Yun performance he saw at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Friday night.

Having seen Shen Yun Performing Arts advertised for the last few years she finally decided to attend for herself. The pictures she had seen and rave reviews she had read inspired her to purchase a ticket.

“It was so beautiful. So fantastic.” she said. “I will tell my girlfriend to please come.”

Shen Yun is the world’s premier Classical Chinese dance company and is widely known for presenting the most authentic representation of traditional Chinese culture. The New York-based company’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization.

In order to present as many facets of Chinese culture as possible Shen Yun incorporates many short vignettes into the performance, adding a variety to the performance that keeps audiences entertained and engaged.

“Some of them are very dramatic, some of them are funny. I enjoyed all of them,” said Ms. Petersen about the programming.

The opening piece, titled Descending To The World, depicts a scene in which a heavenly host has gathered to hear the Lord Buddha, who calls upon them to descend with him to Earth to make a magnificent history for humankind. Gods and goddesses vow to help, according to the program notes.

“The first one, I thought it was very beautiful,” Ms. Petersen said referring to the opening program. “I almost got tears in my eyes. Excellent, excellent.”
