Twelve under 15-year-old Hong Kong hockey players flew off to take part in the 5th Youth Hockey International Championship 2013 to be held in Yangzhong, Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, China.

The tournament will take place from Aug 22-26, with 12 teams split into two divisions to play round robin matches. The top 10 teams will then play matches to decide the top four teams.

The top two teams will then play twice to decide title winners and runners up, and the teams placed third and fourth will play each other twice to decide positions three and four.

The Hong Kong lads, who were selected from an initial 50 applicants, have been undertaking intensive training at Hong Kong’s, King’s Park Hockey Stadium over the last two months with coaching and guidance from Shaheen’s Arif Ali. The manager of the Team is the Khalsa Sports Club supremo, Gurcharan Singh.

Hong Kong Hockey Season

The Hong Kong hockey season will start from the beginning of September, earlier than normal this year in order to complete all matches with fewer pitches available.

The main stadium pitch at King’s Park is to be resurfaced up to the latest grade of pitch and work is planned to start early in October causing considerable disruption to fixture schedules.

The men’s Premier matches will commence on Sunday Sept 15.
