HONG KONG—Surprisingly, Peter Hill did not get past the 2nd round in the Hong Kong National Championships currently ongoing at the Hong Kong Squash Centre. Hill met Chris Lo Cheuk Hin in round 2 and according to Hill he plays best when the courts are a little colder. On the evening of Tuesday June 9, Court 7 was just a bit too warm and Lo was just that bit too quick allowing Lo to win 11-3,11-3, 11-3.
Again according to Hill, Lo has been doing some intensive training prior to the championships. In round 3 on Wednesday June 10, Lo beat Ma Tsz Hei on Court 5 (another warm court) in a 5-game marathon: 3-15, 11-9, 12-10, 3-11, 11-8.
Another great game in the 3rd round was the match between Henry Leung Chi Hin and Yeung Ho Wai which went to 4 hotly contested games with Faheem Khan’s protégée, Leung coming away with a 3-11, 11-9, 13-11, 11-6 win.
All of the top seeds had easy passages into the quarter finals to be played tonight Thursday Jun 11. All of the top seeds’ matches are played on the much slower Centre Court having 3-Glass walls and one concrete wall. Annie Au was first up winning against Ho Ka Wing 11-1, 11-4, 11-4 and No. 2 seed Joey Chan won her match against Li Sum Yin 11-4, 11-5, 11-2.
