A Georgia teenager who was once homeless achieved becoming the valedictorian of her school, it was reported.

Chelesa Fearce, 17, of Charles Drew High School in Riverdale, Ga., said that she spent much of her high school years living in homeless shelters, hotels, and short-term apartments. She also lived in the family car at times.

“I would just pray,” Fearce told ABC News. “My mom, whenever we’re in that situation, she always finds a way out of it. So I would just tell myself, tomorrow it will not be like this, so take your time, do what you have to do now so that you get the future that you want tomorrow.”

Fearce said that she persisted in her studies. At times, she would use the light of her cellular phone to read.

Chelesa Fearce got a GPA of 4.466 and a 1900 on her SATs, reported ABC.

“I just told myself to keep working, because the future will not be like this anymore,” Chelesa told WBS-TV, in elaborating on her experience.

“You’re worried about your home life and then worried at school. Worry about being a little hungry sometimes, go hungry sometimes. You just have to deal with it,” she said.
