NEW YORK—New Yorkers flocked to the Wild Bird Fund open house last weekend to meet the birds being rescued by the Wild Life Rehabilitation Center (WLRC).
The center, located at Columbus Avenue between 87th Street and 88th Street, is good news for the 355 species of birds that rest in the Big Apple during migration. And for one volunteer, it was a chance to atone.
“It was for something I had done wrong long ago,” said Lisa, a volunteer at the center. “Let’s just say it was too terrible to say now.”
Lisa now feeds baby birds, after taking several classes at the WLRC on how to take care of animals.
“It is a great joy,” she said. “It gave me the feeling that I had been forgiven long ago.”
