Heatwave in Japan: at Least Four Killed Over the Weekend in Multiple Cities

At least four people were found dead over the weekend in Japan as a heatwave brought temperatures to 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

People died Arita, a city south of Osaka, and Saitama, north of Tokyo.

All four people were 60 years or older. A 60-year-old man died in the hospital in Saitama after he was found unconscious on the street; an 84-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man died from heat stroke in fields in western Japan, and an 80-year-old woman died in the hospital in Arita, after she was found after collapsing at her home.

The temperature peaked on Saturday in the mid-afternoon in at least two cities, reaching just above 40 degrees Celsius, or 104 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
