Harry Potter fans in the United States are anxiously awaiting the New York premiere of the latest movie on Monday evening at 6 p.m. EST at the Lincoln Center.

The London premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 took place last Thursday at Leicester Square. Stars Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermione), and Rupert Grint (Ron) attended the red carpet event, and each expressed his amazement about the overwhelming following of both the book series and movies.

Two days before the premiere in an interview with the Telegraph, Radcliffe talked about how working on his character during the last 10 years has changed his life.

“Harry has given me everything over the years,“ he said. ”The existence of Harry as a character has given me a foothold and an opportunity in this industry that I never thought, well, that no one ever thinks, they’ll have. I’m just immensely grateful.”

The film is based on the first half of J.K. Rowling’s seventh and final book of the Harry Potter series. According to film critics, it is the darkest and scariest of the lot.

Director David Yates has Harry, Hermione, and Ron fighting to survive and even struggling to “have the courage to get up in the morning” as they run from Lord Voldemort and his evil cohorts, said Radcliffe in an interview with Artisan News.

It has been more than 13 years since J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was published. Six more books and over 400 million sold copies later, the last book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, has finally made its way to the big screen.

Part I of the movie will open to audiences across the country on Friday, Nov. 19. Part II will be out July 2011.
