New York real estate networking hub GreenPearl hosted a “New Start” cocktail party, for those involved in real estate. The Red Sky Lounge on 29th Street in Manhattan was literally filled wall to wall with networkers who, overall, believe that the real estate market will experience a revival this year.

Event organizer and investor Ryan Slack talked about the purpose of GreenPearl, “We are reinventing ourselves to more of an events company, a business network,” he said. “We are spending a lot of time and energy building new, creative events to bring together those from across the industry who ordinarily wouldn’t meet rather than having a narrow silo like just a brokers or investors meeting. The idea for us is to bring together brokers, developers, contractors, architects, everyone to build relationships between them, by meeting people who could really help them, those who are difficult for them to find.”

Slack shared that the new name GreenPearl has a lot of meaning. The black pearl with a green tinge, is often called the peacock pearl, symbolizes something that is valuable and difficult to find.

Karen Diamond, a mortgage broker, expressed her optimism about the real estate market in 2009,saying that she felt the market would turn around by June 2009 and that in her opinion Obama taking office would have a big positive effect on the turn around.

GreenPearl.com was formerly known as MyDealBook. It is the country’s largest online directory and community of people and organizations in the commercial real estate industry. It’s has more than 450,000 industry players listed.

Their listings include investors, developers, lenders, brokers, principals, attorneys, property owners, architects, and over 30 other real estate related professions.

GreenPearl has members in many cities and is expanding to a global operation.
