Grant “Twiggy” Baker, a surfing legend who started surfing when he was 13, has won the Mavericks International 2014 surf competition.

Baker was challenged by Anthony Tashnick of Santa Cruz and Greg Long of San Clemente in the finals. Kenny “Skindog” Collins, Tyler Fox, Grant Baker, and Shane Dorian were knocked out earlier in the finals.

Baker, of South Africa, won his second Mavericks Competition by dominating the final heat, reported the HMB Review.

“Baker won the contest in 2006 and is leading the Big Wave World Tour this year after a previous victory in Spain earlier this season,” it reported.

Power outages briefly impacted the event but it was corrected after a short time.

The “perfect day” featured 20- to 40- foot wave faces all day long.
