Grand Am Road Racing will start testing on Kansas Speedway’s new road course Wednesday according to a series press release.

Kansas Speedway is famous for its oval track which has hosted NASCAR and IndyCar events. The track has constructed a road-racing course in its infield (a la Indianapolis, Daytona and Homestead) preparing for possible Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series and Continental Tires Sports Car Challenge races there in 2013.

The new course will use three turns of the Speedway oval course linked by six corners in the infield.

Wednesday’s test will be the first time cars have driven the new course at racing speed. Three teams representing the two series are scheduled to drive the course: Rolex Daytona Prototype driver Joao Barbosa in the Action Express Coyote-Corvette, Bill Auberlen in the Rolex GT Turner BMW M3, and Ryan Ellis from CTSCC in the I-Moto Mazda Speed 3.

Testing will commence at 9 a.m. Central time.
