A former all-American football player and his wife were murdered on Friday by their 16-year-old son, according to reports.
Antonio Armstrong, a first-team Associated Press All-America linebacker in 1994, and wife Dawn were shot in their Houston home during the early hours of July 29, according to KTRK. Dawn Armstrong died at the scene while her husband was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police received the 911 call from their son—identified as the alleged perpetrator of the attack, a source told KTRK. The source also said a gun was found in the home with a note beside it that read, “I’ve been watching you.”
The son, whose name is being withheld since he’s a minor, has been charged with capital murder. His motive for the murder is still unknown. The Armstrongs also had a 20-year-old son and a younger daughter. She was at home during the attack but was unharmed.
Family and friends say they are at a loss as to why this could have happened.
“There was nothing left out. There was no neglect or anything, nothing that could even possibly justify the situation. This makes no sense,” Vaun Lee, Dawn Armstrong’s cousin told KTRK.
Detective Jimmy Dotson told KTRK that the Armstrongs were an “outstanding family.”
