LAS VEGAS—Two friends left Shen Yun on March 16, at Reynolds Hall already looking forward to the next time they could see the performance.
“I absolutely loved it, it was fascinating. Very, very different from what we’re used to,” says Mary Maniscalco, a former president and COO of a public company. “We'll come back again.”
Her friend Annette Campagna was formerly a manager at Chanel Boutique.
Shen Yun includes operatic solos in Chinese with the lyrics projected on the backdrop. The songs or poems are spiritual. This aspect particularly moved Ms. Campagna.
“I loved the music. The words from the songs were just so moving to me,” she said. “The spirituality, the clouds in the sky, and the inspiration they get from the heavens.”
Some of the songs refer to the moon, to the sky, or to heaven. “It was just beautiful,” said Ms. Campagna. “I love the lyrics.”
Shen Yun Performing Arts is on a mission to restore China’s rich and ancient heritage, bringing Chinese culture to stages around the world through the medium of dance and music. Stories and legends from China’s past and present are brought to life through classical Chinese dance, complemented by a orchestra.
“The synchronization is just amazing,” said Ms. Maniscalco, about the Shen Yun performers working in unison.
Shen Yun is also known for its richly colored and detailed costumes, which illustrate heavenly realms and different dynasties and ethnic groups throughout China’s millennia.
“I loved the costumes,” she said, “the colors, everything is beautiful.”
Everyone should experience Shen Yun, according to Ms. Campagna.
“I'd say it’s interesting, you have to see it, it’s a must.”
