OTTAWA—Penny Reedie, former Canadian High Commissioner to New Zealand, was impressed by the athleticism of the dancers when she attended Shen Yun Performing Arts with her husband, Don Quiring, on Wednesday at the National Arts Centre.
“Terrific athletes,” noted Mrs. Reedie, who was posted to New Zealand from 2005 to 2009 and currently holds the position of Associate Chief at Communications Security Establishment Canada.
It’s the first time for the two long-time Ottawa residents to see a performance by the premier classical Chinese dance company.
New York-based Shen Yun, founded in 2006, is dedicated to the mission of reviving the genuine traditional Chinese culture through presentations of classical Chinese dance as well as ethnic and folk dances. The company tours the globe each year with an all-new program featuring award-winning dancers.
Mrs. Reedie’s husband Don Quiring said he was also impressed by the performance.
“This is very exciting stuff. It’s interesting and different,” said Mr. Quiring.
“The costumes are wonderful. The dancing is terrific, and the athleticism is superb.”
