The Forbes 400 list of the richest people in America was released this week, showing that the majority of America’s wealthiest tycoons have defied the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) and increased their fortunes. Forbes named Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, and Larry Ellison the top three of the 400 richest people in America.
Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, topped the list for the 17th consecutive. The 54-year-old is worth a whopping $US54 billion, seeing his wealth rise $US4 billion since last year and placing him as the second wealthiest person on the planet.
If it was not for his charitable donations, totalling $US28 billion to date, the self-made billionaire would easily be the richest person on the planet.
Coming in second on the prestigious list, is the ‘Oracle of Omaha’, investor Warren Buffett. Buffett’s fortune has also increased, by $US5 billion since 2009, and is now estimated to be $US45 billion.
Rounding out the top 3 is Oracle founder, Larry Ellison. The university dropout has amassed a fortune of $US27 billion since creating the computer software and hardware company.
Also included in the top ten are; Walmart beneficiaries Chrissy, Jim, Alice and S. Robson Walton; energy manufacturing brothers, David and Charles Koch; and, in at number ten,is New York Mayor and media tycoon, Michael Bloomberg.
According to Forbes.com, the wealthiest person on the planet is Mexican telecom mogul, Carlos Slim Helu.
