A man in Pinellas County, Florida on December 10 made a disturbing discovery while fishing.
The fisherman spotted a dead pit bull and on closer inspection saw that it had a rope around its neck and a cinder block ties to the rope.
Detectives from the sheriff's office are now investigating the female dog's death, reported WFLA.
The dog was found floating in a waterway near a channel leading into the Bartow Power Plant, just off the Weedon Island Preserve.
Detectives believe someone killed the dog, described as a brindle or brown-colored pitbull with a white belly.
People were upset to hear the news.
"Sick people... we need to catch this criminal," said one Facebook user.
"Heartbreaking act of cruelty--I don't even want to think about the final moments of this poor dog's life. Please contact authorities if you know or saw anything that might help bring the monster who did this to justice...." added another.
Anyone with information should call the sheriff's office at 727-582-6200.
