Break out the tissues. It is allergy time in the Midwest, and Loyola University is ready to tell the sufferers about it.
Dr. Joseph Leija, allergist, Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, created the official allergy count of the Midwest. The Gottlieb Allergy Count for 2010 started Monday and “itchy throat, watery eyes, and a runny nose,” are on the agenda, said Dr. Leija in a news release.
Birch, maple, and cottonwood tree pollens and mold are present in the Midwest.
Dr. Leija advised allergy sufferers to keep windows closed and to use air conditioning during the allergy season. “We have had a wet winter, so I anticipate mold to be higher than usual in the coming counts,” said Dr. Leija.
