Female kicker tryout: The first woman to take part in the NFL Combine was injured on Sunday during a tryout.
A New York City resident became the first woman to try out for the NFL combine, but she got hurt during kickoff drills, it was reported.
Lauren Silberman, 28, tried out as kicker at the New York Jets’ facility in Florham Park, N.J.
“From the 35, Silberman’s first kick made it just past midfield to the 49. The second where she appeared to get injured, didn’t make midfield,” tweeted Connor Orr, a Jets beat writer with the New Jersey Star-Ledger.
Later, he tweeted that “Silberman is meeting with trainers now. NFL has no further updates.”
When she was interviewed by USA Today last week, Silberman said she “saw the opportunity and had to go for it.”

“I love football, new experiences, and wanted to take the chance to learn more about the training process that leads to a successful NFL career. It was a bit of a surprise to some but mostly just an outcry of ‘That’s my girl! (and) ”You go, Silbs!’ ... My family and friends seem to be getting a kick out of this,” added Silberman, who played club soccer for Wisconsin.
She said the NFL should be lauded for giving a woman a chance during the combine.
“I hope my willingness to put myself out there inspires others to participate as athletes at this level,” she said.
According to The Associated Press, NFL scouts generally look to see if a kicker can hit extra points and short field goals, rather than 60-yard bombs.
“I’ve been devoting a couple of hours a day whenever I can. It’s been a unique challenge juggling my business and the recent media attention that I’ve received,” she told USA Today.
