The father of a Colorado boy who was found dead in 2012---years after he declared his innocence on “Dr. Phil”---has been arrested, according to the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office in a July 22 news release.
Blood stains, evidence, and conversations connected Mark Redwine, 55, to the killing of his then-13-year-old son, Dylan, in November 2012. He was arrested Saturday in Bellingham, Washington, where he was working as a truck driver, after a grand jury indictment for second-degree murder and child abuse.
He’s being held on $1 million bond, according to the sheriff’s office.
In addition to the second-degree murder charge, Redwine is facing a child abuse charge in relation to his son’s death.
Dylan was last known to be at his father’s home in Vallecito, Colorado, located about 200 miles southwest of Denver.
The boy’s remains were found in June 2013 and later in November 2015 by hikers. Forensic anthropologists said the child received injuries that were consistent with blunt force trauma.
The child’s blood was found in locations in Mark Redwine’s house, including “on the couch, the floor in front of the couch, the corner coffee table, on the floor beneath a rug, and a love seat,” officials said, according to the indictment.
He also told his ex-wife Betsy Horvath that he would “kill the kids before he let her have them,” while saying if he had to get rid of a body, he would “leave it out in the mountains,” the indictment says.
But he has denied for years that he was responsible for his son’s death.
“I wouldn’t hurt him,” he told his former wife on “Dr. Phil.” “What kind of mother are you to even think that I was even capable of doing something like that?”
Mark Redwine’s prosecution will start when he’s extradited back to Colorado, La Plata County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.
“The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, and Federal Bureau of Investigation have invested thousands of hours in investigating this case,” said the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office.
