The YouTube and Snapchat star Shonduras, aka Shaun McBride, published a video that caught the moment when his wife, Jenny McBride, fell off a cliff during their family vacation in Hawaii.

The fall took place on McBrides’ road to Hana. They were walking on a trail to a red sand beach. In the video, the couple recalled the experience and Jenny, still traumatized from the fall, burst into tears while speaking.

“It sure changes your perspective. Even the littlest things shouldn’t bother you cause you never know, life could change in a split second,” Jenny said.

Shaun inserted a disclaimer for the video footage he uploaded to YouTube of Jenny’s fall: “WARNING --- this video may contain footage not suitable for some audiences. parental and viewer discretion is advised. thanks!”

In the footage, Jenny can be seen tripping at the cliff’s edge and then rolling off cliff onto a rocky beach below, with Shaun shouting after her. When Shaun ran after her, down a more gentle section of the cliff, the camera revealed Jenny’s shock, as well as her scrapes and bruises.

The rest of the family also slowly climbed down to the beach to make sure Jenny was ok. When her daughter, Adley, arrived, Jenny picked her up and held her for a long hug. Then, after some rest and time to recompose, Jenny was able to finish the hike.

The video was posted on 23 May. Within a few days, it reached more than 300,000 views.

“We have decided that we want to share this message with you guys, our youtube family, so you could learn from our experiences and keep trying to make everyday in your life THE BEST DAY EVER,” the caption on YouTube states.

“This really was a life changing experience that has changed our perspective on life, family, and each other. To not let the little things get to us and to really appropriate the time we have together [sic].”

Just two days later on May 25, Shaun further posted another video named “2:00am Ultimate Red Sunrise in Hawaii with the Family ? SUPER EARLY MORNING ROUTINE!!” saying, “Jenny is doing awesome.” The video starts with Shaun waking his kids up, followed by a day of the family having fun exploring Hawaii.

Some on social media have criticized the McBride family for, in their view, “dramatizing” the fall to get more clicks. Others have joined in the “my wife fell off a cliff” theme that is circulating the internet. The topic has now gone viral, with memes and gifs being spun from the original video.

Some have even edited the video to make it even more dramatic.

Shaun has more than 1.6 million subscribers on YouTube. His channel “BEST DAYS EVER!” was started on Sept. 30, 2008, and has more than 455 million views.

Taking it as “a series of vlogs and videos with my family and friends,” Shaun hopes the channel becomes a way of sharing and saving all the incredible memories he is making.

Different from the other videos that the YouTube star is used to posting, this fall vlog wasn’t meant to be fun, Shaun explains. But he explains why as a family, they thought the video was an important message to share.

“This shows you that life isn’t perfect and also why it’s so important to always have the best day ever and a positive outlook.”
