On May 13, 1992 Falun Gong founder Mr. Li Hongzhi introduced the practice of Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, to the general public in mainland China. According to official statistics, in a few short years it grew dramatically in popularity until there were at least 70 million Chinese practitioners.
In the wake of the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong, which started on July 20, 1999, the scenes of Falun Gong group practice in mainland China have become events worth recalling. Public celebration of World Falun Dafa Day began on May 13, 2000. In honor of the birthday of Falun Gong founder, Master Li Hongzhi and the introduction of the practice to the public on the same day, Falun Gong practitioners across the world mark Falun Dafa Day on May 13.
