Software pioneer John McAfee arrived in Miami early Wednesday evening from Guatemala where he was arrested last week, after spending weeks on the run from Belize authorities, the Associated Press reports.

He is wanted in Belize as a person of interest in the murder of his neighbor on a tropical island in the Central American country. McAfee claims he didn’t do it, but has said that he has information related to corruption by officials in Belize.

On Wednesday on his blog, McAfee left a cryptic message saying that he was “forcibly separated” from his girlfriend, Sam, and is “taking off.” He added there will be “more in Miami.” After McAfee landed there was no immediate information from him.

Guatemalan immigration officials escorted the McAfee anti-virus founder to the Guatemala City airport, reported The Associated Press.

“I’m being expelled, I will have to leave today,” McAfee told Bloomberg News. “I have no choice in the matter, however, I’m perfectly happy with the decision.”

His attorney, Telesforo Guerra, told AP that “it’s best that McAfee go to the United States, that’s definitely the country where he will be safest.” “In Guatemala, he runs the risk that anything could happen to him,” he added.

Last week, McAfee sneaked into Guatemala from Belize. He claims that he was arrested in Guatemala because of Vice magazine.

While in Guatemala undetected, two Vice journalists traveling with him published a photo of McAfee on Twitter, but did not remove the geolocation metadata, revealing his exact location.

On Tuesday, he terminated his relationship with Vice magazine and said the publication failed “to remove location data from their now notorious photo” that ended up getting him arrested. “Obviously, legal proceedings are under way,” McAfee said on his blog.

It is unclear what will happen to McAfee now that he is in the United States. He was trying to fight his extradition back to Belize while he was in Guatemala.
