KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia—Nik Mohd Zaaba Bin Nik Daud, Secretary General for Ex-Services Associations of Malaysia, warned in an exclusive interview with The Epoch Times that the country must be vigilant and wary of communism making a comeback in any form.

“Today, the communist party infiltrates indirectly and it’s difficult to detect. For example, they attempt to educate and instill communism to the younger generation. The surrender of the Malayan Communist Party (MCP) in 1989 did not mean the collapse of communism. It’s only a matter of time for it to make a comeback,” Nik Mohd said.

There are some politicians and organizations calling on the government to allow Chin Peng, the former secretary general of MCP to return to Malaysia for settlement based on humanitarian grounds. These people also reminded the government that MCP contributed to the independence of Malaysia.

In response, Nik Mohd said, “We must be clear that Chin should be subject to the laws of war criminals rather than an elderly person returning for settlement.”

He pointed out the claim that MCP fought for the independence of Malaysia is wrong. MCP wanted to use force for independence and communism to rule. This is unacceptable because Malaysia wanted to achieve independence through peaceful agreements with the British, he said.

“Why did the MCP continue armed struggle until 1989 after the independence of Malaysia in 1957. Strictly speaking, they undermined the independence. The costs of war against the MCP, if spent on building the country, would have improved the country’s prosperity.

“The 513 ethnic riot in 1969 was also incited by the MCP to create racial hatred so that the MCP could seize power when the country was in chaos, ” Nik Mohd said.

He said, “We cannot forgive Chin Peng. He killed many innocent people and members of the armed forces. Attempting to force people to succumbed to communism, MCP created fear in society by killing estate workers and blowing up railways and roads.”
