VANCOUVER, Canada—Lawyer Berta Lopera was captivated by Shen Yun Performing Arts’ depiction of ancient Chinese culture after seeing the show at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Friday night.

“I love it, it’s amazing,” he said during the intermission. “The colours, the coordination, everything is beautiful.”

He also enjoyed the interaction between the dancers and the animated backdrop.

“The background was awesome. It seemed like people were emerging from cyberspace and coming to reality—that was awesome.”

Since its inception in 2006, New York-based Shen Yun has brought together the talents of world-class dancers, choreographers, singers, and musicians from around the globe in order to fulfill its mission of reviving China’s authentic traditional culture.

Mr. Lopera said the pieces involving the female dancers in their flowing costumes uplifted him.

“Wow, I especially love the women’s [dances]. They gave me peace because somebody made me upset earlier,” said Mr. Lopera.

The piece Phoenix Fairies particularly impressed him.

“It was beautiful, beautiful.”

He said he would recommend the show to his friends.

“Come and see it, it’s wonderful. If you like to see culture, you have to take the opportunity, that is life. Wonderful. I love it and I will recommend it.”
