Erica Hagan , an American who was visiting Chile, died over the weekend.
Hagan, 22, a resident of Murray in Kentucky, was found unresponsive in her apartment on the Chile campus of Colegio Bautista of Temuco.
The death is a homicide, authorities in Chile say, reported WPSD.
Hagan’s father is on his way to Chile to find out more.
Hagan had recently graduated from Georgetown College with a psychology degree, and enjoyed traveling. She was teaching children in Temuco, and had lived in Spain for part of 2012 and had traveled there at other times.
Friends remember her as a studious individual who also cared for others.
“She was my roommate my senior year. So we got to know each other pretty well on a small campus like Georgetown. We spent plenty of hours together studying and just living with each other,” Brenda Patel told WKYT.
“She was one of the most loving, caring individuals that I knew. There’s not one person that I could say I know that would have anything negative to say about her. She loved helping others. She loved Chile. She visited once and when she came back, she always talked about going back.”
“This was a phenomenal, well-loved young lady that deserved better,” Hagan’s aunt, Charlene Martin, added to WSIL. “She had so much potential and she was going places in her life. I was so proud of that young lady. So proud.”
A memorial service will be held this week at Georgetown.
