Elephant tramples poacher: A suspected poacher was trampled to death by an elephant in Zimbabwe, according to reports.
The man was identified as Solomon Manjoro, also known as Tshuma of Gokwe, after he was found by park rangers at the Charara game reserve, reported the state-run Sunday Mail.
“The poacher was recently trampled to death by an elephant after he failed to gun down the jumbo during a hunting expedition,” the Mail wrote.
His colleague, 29-year-old Noluck Tafuruka, was arrested on firearms charges.
It was reported that the two allegedly went to Charara to poach elephants in April when Manjoro was killed.
An estimated 25,000 elephants are kill in Africa each year, according to conservation groups.
Two months ago, poachers killed at least 28 endangered forest elephants in Cameroon over a several-week period. Reuters reported that over the past decade, the African forest elephant population has decreased by some 62 percent.
