Elementary on CBS was renewed by the network for a season 3.
Elementary will premiere in this fall, although an episode 1 air date hasn’t been announced yet.
The first two seasons premiered right near each other--September 27 and September 26. Based on those dates, season 3 will likely premiere on September 23 or September 30 of this year.
The season 2 finale airs on May 15.
Mycroft’s return may have seemed straightforward but leading up to and in the finale viewers will see it’s anything but.
Several situations lead into the finale. There’s rising tension between Sherlock and Joan, prompting Joan to reconsider her professional goals as she wrestles with the partnership. And a few secrets come out about Sherlock’s past, courtesy of Mycroft.
But the real plot of the finale is that Sherlock and Joan are forced to help Mycroft when he finds himself in “a great deal of trouble,” executive producer Rob Doherty told TVLine.
In fact, his life is in danger, and the only people who can help him out of this particular jam are Sherlock and Joan,” he said. “They really find themselves on an island where they can’t turn to the police, and case-wise, they have to take on a lot more than they do typically.”
Doherty told TVGuide that the may be death in the finale.
“Yes. Be afraid, be very afraid. That is an absolute possibility,” he said. “At different times in the episode to varying degrees, each person’s life is in danger. I would say Mycroft finds himself in the very hottest water in the finale.”
He added when asked about whether the finale would be close-ended:
“We will tie up certain loose ends. It’s not a proper cliff-hanger, but between Sherlock and Joan, some pretty drastic decisions will be made that will require correspondingly drastic changes to their lives. We’re not going to leave anyone tied to a bomb or anything like that. It’s more about their friendship and partnership, big changes coming and what that will mean as we start to dive into the work of Season 3. Where are Sherlock and Joan as we start the next year?”
