A tornado has reportedly touched down in Durham, North Carolina, on Thursday evening, according to local reports.

The tornado apparently downed power lines and trees in its path, according to accounts on Twitter.

The Durham Herald-Sun reported that the National Weather Service said that it was likely a tornado that caused damage around Hope Valley Road and University Drive.

“We’re pretty sure it’s a tornado,” Ryan Ellis with the NWS told the paper. “We'll have to go out and survey it tomorrow to be sure.”
