Good news for sports car fans: Endurance-info.com reports that Dome is hiring staff to build a new prototype for 2014, and the Mazda Fan Festa Okayama site says that the company will make an announcement about its LMP2 in late November.
E-i.com says Dome Co. Ltd’s new president Hiroshi Fushida plans to build both a road-going sports car and new LMP1 and LMP2 prototypes for the 2014 season.
“We have already started the initial R&D work such as wind tunnel tests, etc. for 2014 LMP1&2 project,” Fushida told E-i.com. “We'll make a decision on this project soon.”
Dome has been build sports-racing prototypes since 1979, after unveiling its Dome Zero road-going sports car in 1978. The factory also built Toyota’s first racing prototype in 1985.
Dome’s S101 won the 2002 and 2003 FIA Sportscar Championships, and earned a sixth, two sevenths, and an eighth at Le Mans with Jan Lammer’s Racing for Holland team in 2002–2005. Dome’s 101.5 and 102 chassis were less successful.
Dome’s latest effort, the S102.5, finished 35th in the 2012 Le Mans 24.
