U.S. Senator Dick Durbin wants a Food and Drug Administration investigation into claims that Purina’s Beneful is toxic to dogs.
A lawsuit filed against the pet food maker weeks ago claims Beneful’s dry kibble is making pets sick and killing some of them.
According to ABC Chicago on Thursday, Durbin called on the FDA to start a probe.
This week, a Pittsburgh-area man claimed that his dog was also killed by Beneful dog food, according to a local CBS station. Jim Ball told the station: I read the bag and it seemed like it had some pretty good ingredients from the outside.”
“We were out and when we came home, that’s when he was laying on the floor,” said Ball. “There was vomit all over the basement, and I could tell that something just wasn’t right. And right away I took him into the Castle Shannon Animal Hospital.”
Purina denied his claims, saying that “we believe the lawsuit is baseless, and we intend to vigorously defend ourselves and our brand.”
Last week, Epoch Times spoke with a Beneful spokesperson. A representative said in a statement: “Our Beneful products are proudly made here in the United States. You can also find a listing of ingredients on our website, on each product’s individual product page.”
