ATLANTA—“It’s just really an extraordinary, fantastic show, really a pleasure for the soul and the eyes,” said Dr. Klicius, honorary consul of a European country and a medical doctor. Dr. Klicius and her husband were among the enchanted theatergoers at the Cobb Energy Centre on Jan. 27, for the opening of Shen Yun Performing Arts.
The New York-based Shen Yun Touring Company has brought 5,000 years of authentic divinely inspired Chinese culture to Atlanta with a company composed of world-class dancers, choreographers, singers, artists, and musicians from around the globe.
Dr. Klicius said, “The dances are so synchronized, the motions, absolutely out of this world, absolutely a pleasure to see it. I am absolutely delighted and happy to see it.”
According to the Shen Yun Program, classical Chinese dance is one way 5,000 years of Chinese culture has been passed down and retained. It is a dance form built on profound traditional aesthetics. In its early days, it was conveyed primarily among the people, in the imperial courts, and through ancient plays. Over thousands of years, this art was continually organized and refined, with it eventually developing into the vast systematic and distinctly Chinese dance form that we know today.
Dr. Klicius also said she really enjoyed the orchestra. With its all-original compositions, the orchestra melds Eastern and Western instruments. The distinctly Chinese sound of ancient instruments, like the bamboo flute and pipa combined with western strings, percussion, woodwinds, and brass bring about a spectacular, fresh, and unexpected sound. “Beautiful, beautiful orchestra …” said the doctor.
Mr. Klicius, a retired engineer, said he agreed with his wife’s opinion about the show, “It was absolutely marvelous, the arrangements, and the backgrounds.”
To the artists, Dr. Klicius would like to say, “Thank you all for coming and for presenting such a beautiful show.”
