Denis Leary, the comedian-turned-actor, is slated to have a role in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot from Columbia, according to MTV News.

Leary, who hasn’t been in a movie since 2002, will play as George Stacy, a police officer and the father of Gwen Stacy—one of Peter Parker’s love interests. Emma Stone will play Gwen Stacy.

Leary, a former comedian, has been appearing on the television firefighter drama Rescue Me for the past six years.

George Stacy is ultimately killed in the Marvel Comics world by Doctor Octopus.

Marc Webb is taking over the Spider-Man franchise from Sam Raimi, and production will begin December of this year, according to Entertainment Weekly. The film will come to theaters in July 2012.
