Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, faced questions on Capitol Hill Tuesday over the Afghanistan withdrawal. Milley said, “I think that our credibility with allies and partners around the world and with adversaries is being intensely reviewed by them to see which way this is going to go.” This comes as around a hundred Americans are still stuck in Afghanistan.
The United States saw a rise in fatal violence last year. The FBI released its 2020 crime report on Monday. It showed the number of homicides increased nearly 30 percent from 2019—one of the largest single-year increases ever recorded in the country’s history. While violent crimes increased by five percent, overall crimes decreased about six percent. The FBI collects statistics from law enforcement agencies across the country, but many do not participate. Several large cities, like New York, Chicago, and New Orleans, did not submit data.
