Deep Dive (May 5): Facebook Oversight Board Upholds Trump Ban

|Updated:

Facebook’s oversight board decided Wednesday to uphold former President Donald Trump’s ban from the platform. The responses were split along party lines. The House Judiciary Committee GOP issued one word in response—“pathetic”—while Pennsylvania’s Democratic Representative Mary Gay Scanlon called it “a small act of accountability.” She says more needs to be done.

Trump launched his own communications platform of sorts on Tuesday. The platform is on Trump’s personal website, and it includes social-media-like posts that can be shared to Facebook and Twitter. A video introducing the platform says it’s “a place to speak freely and safely straight from the desk of Donald J. Trump.”
