Thirty Republican House members are asking the Labor Department for an official audit of unemployment insurance fraud during the pandemic. The CEO of ID.me told Axios that as many as 50 percent of unemployment payments might have been stolen. The Labor Department admitted in a memo that around $5.4 billion in unemployment insurance benefits were likely lost to fraud between March and October 2020.
