WASHINGTONThe 2010 USA Science & Engineering Festival is holding its Grand Finale Expo in Washington, D.C., today and tomorrow.

Events are held in the National Mall, Freedom Plaza, Woodrow Wilson Plaza, Mellon Auditorium, and the National Museum of Natural History 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. both days.

This morning, astronauts Ken Rightler, Pam Melroy, and Brian Duffy spoke at Wilson Plaza about their experience, inspiring children and parents to learn about astronomy.

George Samu, an engineering student, was encouraged by his professor to come. “I see a whole new world of science,” he said.

He was amazed to see science being taught outside of the classroom, especially high school students building robots in one of the booths.

He said he learned from the festival that “science is a gateway and the key to success.”
