DC Police said that two elephant tusks were stolen from the Washington, D.C., City Hall building.
The Washington Times reported that the tusks--which were given to the city as a gift from Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I--were taken in August.
Selassie gave the tusks to the city in 1954.
They disappeared between Aug. 12 and Aug. 27, said police Police Department spokesman Saray Leon, according to the Washington City Paper.
The crime was spotted Aug. 27.
“They’re hoping that somebody in the public might be able to assist,” Leon said.
