Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish and Cardinals third-baseman David Freese were named to the final spots of the American and National League rosters respectively on Thursday via MLB’s final vote, according to a report on Major League Baseball’s website.
The MLB final vote gave fans the chance to choose each league’s 34th and final All-Star spot from five deserving players.
Darvish, a 25-year-old rookie from Japan, sports a 10-5 record with a 3.59 ERA and 117 strikeouts through 16 starts this season under the scope of enormous pressure after the Rangers paid more than $50 million to his Japanese team for his services.
Freese, the 2011 World Series MVP, has hit 13 home runs, drove in 50 runs, while hitting .285 in 75 games for St. Louis this season. The All-Star selection is the first of his three-year career.
