Dale Robertson dies: One of the more prominent television and move Western actors, Dale Robertson, died on Wednesday at the age of 89.

Robertson starred in NBC’s “Tales of Wells Fargo” in the late 1950s, but later starred in “Iron Horse,” which was on ABC in the late 1960s. He also had roles in “Dallas,” “Dynasty,” “Death Valley Days,” and “Harts of the West.”
Nancy Robertson, his niece, confirmed with The Associated Press that her uncle died in La Jolla, Calif., at the Scripps Memorial Hospital.
“I remember him as a larger-than-life fellow,” she was quoted as saying. “When he was in town it was always very exciting. It always meant something magical was going to happen.”
Robertson was born in Harrah, Oklahoma, on July 14, 1923, and went to Oklahoma Military College. He later boxed in prize fights to make money before joining the Army, serving in World War II, according to AP.
Overall, he appeared in some 60 films and 430 television episodes in his career, reported The New York Times.
Robertson often did not call himself an actor, but described himself more of as a personality.
“An actor can change himself to fit a part, whereas a personality has to change the part to fit himself,” he said in 1988, adding: “The personality has to say it his own way.”
With the money he made in Hollywood, Robertson raised horses on a ranch that he built, the Haymaker Farms, just outside of Oklahoma City. According to The Oklahoma Gazette, he owned 235 horses at one time but he sold the ranch a number of years ago.
