NEW YORK—Almost 7 out of 10 New Yorkers have a favorable opinion of Gov. Andrew Cuomo and 58 percent said he is doing an excellent or good job, according to a recent poll conducted by Siena College.

Survey respondents were asked about national and state politics, including questions about Obama, Mitt Romney, and Cuomo.

Cuomo received an A or a B grade for “his effectiveness in the just completed legislative session in Albany.” The majority of respondents pegged him as a moderate.

Cuomo was graded on efforts to improve the state economy; 57 percent of respondents chose a C, D, or F. When asked how they would describe the state’s fiscal condition, 80 percent of respondents said it’s fair or poor, yet responded more optimistically to a question about whether the state is on the right track (53 percent) or wrong direction (36 percent).

Almost half of New Yorkers think the Affordable Health Care Act is constitutional, while 28 percent say it is not.

After the Supreme Court decision, 53 percent of those surveyed want the law fully implemented, and 37 percent want it repealed; three out of four Democrats favor Obamacare, while three out of four Republicans oppose it.

In choosing a president, 61 percent of respondents said they would vote for Obama, with 34 percent supporting Romney.

Answers from 758 New York voters who answered questions over the telephone made up the poll, which has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.
