Three matches were completed last Sunday Dec 2 in Round 10 of the Hong Kong Cricket Association Sunday League: KCC Templars played Shaffi’s Vagabonds at KCC; HKCC Wanderers against USRC/Milllennium at HKCC; and LSW Knights verses HKCC Scorpions PKVR Sports Ground.
KCC Templars, without Atkinson, their stalwart wicket-keeper/batsman, still managed to score 277 for seven wickets off just 44 overs in their match against second in the table team Shaffi’s Vagabonds. Templars being put into bat on another grey autumn day at the KCC Ground, took full advantage of the situation with openers JP Lamsam and W Barkat putting on an opening stand of 96, before Barkat was caught for 34 runs. Lamsam went soon afterwards, with the total on 104, after making a fine 56.
R Cambell and stand-in keeper K Shar took the score along to 138 before Shar was dismissed, bringing DB Dearing to the crease. Dearing also made a big score, making 74 runs before he was finally caught with the score on 279. At that point the Templars declared their inning closed.
The Vagabonds could not match Templars batting performance and were dismissed for 155 in 34.4 overs. Templars won the match by 124 runs. I Arif had an excellent day with the ball, dismissing five of the Vagabonds’ batsmen for 33 runs.
This win increased KCC Templar’s lead at the top of the table to 7 points after five matches, but Pakistan Association AMSUA have still only played two matches and are on 10 points in third place. We will have to wait until Round 19 on Feb 3 for KCC Templars to meet the Pakistan Association UMSUA, which should be an interesting encounter
HKCC Wanderers vs USRC/Millennium
HKCC Wanderers won the toss and batted first, scoring 237 for 5 off 45 overs. Opener AJ Nichols played a superb captain’s innings of 125 not out. He was supported primarily by SJ Tohill who scored 30 and LM Ginnivan who scored 27.
USRC/Milllennium in reply were all out for 178 in 37.8 overs, giving the Wanderers victory by 59 runs.
LSW Knights vs HKCC Scorpions
In the match between LSW Knights and HKCC Scorpions at PKVR Sports Ground, Scorpions were put into bat and scored 263 for 8 off 48 overs.
LSW Knights, in reply, had a very bad start to the innings, losing their first six batsmen for less than 20 runs. They recovered a bit of composure, mainly due to an impressive innings of 95 by M Balal, their No. 9 batsman. Eventually they were all out for a total of 209 in the 41st over, giving Scorpions a 54-run victory.
