Corey Haim, actor from 1980s hit films such as The Lost Boys, Lucas, and License to Drive, was pronounced dead at Burbank Hospital early Wednesday morning.

While the cause of death has not officially been confirmed, Haim had been exhibiting flu-like symptoms and was rushed from an apartment complex in Los Angeles to the hospital, but was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m. Haim has had drug abuse problems in previous years, however; there is no current evidence to support a link to his death. “He could have succumbed to whatever (illness) he had or it could have been drugs. Who knows?” Police Sgt. William Mann was reported as saying by AP.

Two Coreys

Haim had starred in several films and began teaming up with actor Corey Feldman for a series of movie hits.

The two became synonymous with each other and eventually in 2006, after a major slump in their acting careers, starred in an A&E reality tv show titled The Two Coreys, which ran for two seasons.

However the show was cancelled in 2008 after Haim’s relapse into substance abuse.

Feldman posted a statement about Haim’s death on his blog, saying he awakened to the news of his longtime friend’s death.

“My eyes weren’t even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face,” Feldman wrote. “This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend.”

Haim was 38.
