NEW YORK—To mark the beginning of the New Year, the New York Metro Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) Chapter held its first ’09 informational and organizational sessions at the sparkling Tavern on the Green restaurant.
In a time when most people are wondering about the future of the real estate market, the meeting called for the acceleration of commercial real estate success. Attendees were encouraged to join CCIM and take the classes it offers.
Miyuki Yamamoto, who is managing director to Sun Pop International Corporation, holds a real estate Master’s degree from Columbia University and has been in the business for about 20 years. She attended the CCIM courses and found them very informative, adding that the education gave her more confidence as a professional.
Dorothy Chuang, Vice President to CBRE New York, an existing CCIM member, proudly claimed that she happened to be one of the very few Chinese real estate brokers that are a certified commercial investment member. She likened the CCIM courses to the PhD courses in real estate.
The CCIM designation was established originally by the California Association of Realtors in 1954 under the name Certified Property Exchanger (CPE). In 1969, the designation was renamed Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM). A council was established to administer the designation, and in 1991 it was granted institute status as an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors. It used to have as many as 18,000 members but dropped to 9,000 this year. However, Paul Fetcher of Great American Brokerage Inc., president of the New York Metro Chapter, told the attendants of the Monday sessions that they are pretty sure the number is going to grow this year.
The New York Metro CCIM Chapter expects to open its first sessions of the CCIM introductory and core courses in March. More information at http://chapters.ccim.com/newyorkmetro.
