Arkansas Faces Auburn in SEC West Battle

The 10th-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks will face their 3rd-ranked opponent in as many weeks as they play host to the 15th-ranked Auburn Tigers. The Razorbacks, who are 0-1 in SEC play, desperately need the win to remain afloat in a stacked SEC West.

Despite their winless conference record, the Razorbacks still have the No. 1 ranked offense in the league, and will face a Tiger defense that has been questioned all year. Statistically they rank dead last in the SEC in pass defense, giving up 232.8 yards per game.

Razorbacks quarterback Tyler Wilson’s mouth must be watering at the chance to pick apart that defense with his favorite target Jarius Wright. Wilson is fresh off a school record performance against Texas A&M last week where he threw for 510 yards.

It is uncertain if Auburn starting quarterback Chris Davis will play. Davis has been out the past two games with an ankle injury.

The 106th Red River Rivalry game will take place at the Cotton Bowl this weekend, pitting the 11th-ranked Texas Longhorns against the 3rd-ranked Oklahoma Sooners, in a battle of Big 12 South unbeatens.

The Sooners are led by quarterback Landry Jones, who has completed 72 percent of his passes, resulting in their offense ranking fifth in the FBS this season. Their up tempo pace will provide difficulties for the Texas defense who thrive on blitzes to keep their opponent in check. The Longhorns will instead need to force Jones out of the pocket and out of rhythm with his star receivers to give their team a chance.

On the other side of the ball, the Longhorns have been rotating quarterbacks between freshman David Ash and sophomore Case McCoy. Creative play calling offers different looks to opposing defenses, keeping them on their toes, and making them play true. This method has allowed five different Longhorns to throw a touchdown pass this season.

The winner of the game will carry home the Golden Hat trophy.
