Denver, the reigning Super Bowl champions, lost their top two starting quarterbacks from last season with the retirement of Peyton Manning and then losing Brock Osweiler to the Houston Texans in free agency. The team has traded for Mark Sanchez to help shore up the position but likely needs some more competition.

Kaepernick led the 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII–where they lost to the Baltimore Ravens–in 2012 after passing for 1,814 yards while starting seven games. He also ran for 415 yards. But his numbers steadily decreased to the point that San Francisco finally benched him in favor of Blaine Gabbert mid-way through last season.
