Cleveland Browns backing Johnny Manziel; for now

Cleveland Browns backing Johnny Manziel; for now
|Updated:

Johnny Manziel has plenty of friends inside of the locker room of the Cleveland Browns. How long that will last will be seen.

Day 2 of the Johnny Manziel redemption tour did not include the Cleveland Browns quarterback speaking with the media. Instead, it was other members of the Browns talking Johnny Football with reporters, and one thing was hammered home two days into the team’s voluntary offseason workouts:

Manziel has a home in Cleveland for the time being.

ESPN NFL reporter Chris Mortensen dropped an apparent bombshell when he suggested that the Browns had “90 percent given up” on Manziel, who was a flop in his rookie season. Cleveland head coach Mike Pettine was asked about that story while he was meeting with reporters on Tuesday, and Pettine, per May Kay Cabot of the Northeast Ohio Media Group, did not seem amused:

"I think he used the number 90%. I use that number 90% too about the accuracy of reports that are out there -- of being 90% inaccurate. I don't know where he would've gotten that from. He's very much in our plans and as we said, his career with us just hit the pause button and we've said this before: he's got to get himself right as a person first before we worry about Johnny the football player. I filed that (report) in the ridiculous category when it was brought to my attention."
